The number of teams racing each season has barely moved in twenty seasons,
which makes the game look static. It is not — the composition changes. Splitting the
same total by how long each team has been racing separates a population that is replenishing
from one that is merely getting older.
Who is actually playing
Teams that raced each season, split by how long they have been racing. Seasons 57–78.

Lower divisions were not recorded before S75. The shaded seasons count only div 1–3 teams; the rest count the whole game. Do not compare across the line — the apparent rise in new teams at S75 is those divisions becoming visible, not teams arriving.
S78 is still in progress — its counts are partial and shown hatched.

A team's cohort is set by the first season it appears in race results, measured
across all recorded history. Seasons before 57 are excluded: collection
coverage expanded in bursts around seasons 42–50, manufacturing phantom debuts that distort the
middle bands until they age out.
The same caution applies at S75, marked on the chart.
Divisions 4–7 carried 3–17 recorded races a season before it and 74–161 after, so the debut
band jumps there because the lower divisions started being written down — not because players
arrived. On the div 1–3 population, which is recorded consistently throughout, debuts run a
flat 2–7 a season across the whole window.
